"People love each other for all sorts of different reasons. Most of the time we're loved for what we can do rather than for who we are. It's not such a bad thing, being loved for what you can do."
"But the other is better"
"Better. I hate to say better, but it is. If someone loves you for what you can do then it's flattering, but why do you love them? If someone loves you for who you are then they have to know you, which means you have to know them."
this is the best part of the book i just finished reading. Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, it's also the winner of the Orange Prize, winner of the Pen/Faulkner award and a National Book Critics Circle Award Finalist. i personally don't care whether or not it won prizes, i think it's amazing....although the ending was quite shocking (ok, well not really) and REALLY sad. but i haven't enjoyed a good book in a long time (well, that's also because i haven't really had time to myself...i had to read this on my subway rides to and from school) and this is really good! definitely recommendable!
i'm actually getting pretty psyched for our musical that's on showcase these upcoming two weeks. BLOOD BROTHERS! march 5, 6, 12 & 13 in sam sorbara hall. tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults! we're actually looking and sounding like a real production! this cheers me up greatly because i felt so awful that i sucked, but maybe i don't! the only thing is that rehearsals are excruciatingly LONG...oh well, part of the packaged deal! but seriously people, this show is GOOD! it's not dramatic, but rather fun, light and comedic...well, there's a dark part but still, it's tons of shits and giggles!
mom made cookies and ames' immediately informed me of them when i got home tonight. damn it. there goes my resolution to keeping away from junk food!
