This one hits close to home...TRIBUTE TO A KING August 28, 2020 RIP Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)

His team has revealed that 'Black Panther', '21 Bridges', 'Avengers End Game', 'Marshall' and 'Da 5 Bloods' were all filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. Even though he will be most popularly remembered for his role as a star of Marvel's Black Panther, a film seen as a cultural milestone due to its predominantly black cast director, I am including a list of quotes from many people's lives of the current generation of stars and very known people that Chadwick Boseman has touched.  Something that I strive to leave as an ever-lasting presence:
  • ‘I remember being struck by his quiet, powerful presence...there was a higher frequency that he seemed to operate from...Chadwick was a man who made the most of his time, and somehow managed to take his time.’ - Lupita Nyong’o
  • 'What a gentle gifted SOUL. Showing us all that Greatness in between surgeries and chemo. The courage, the strength, the Power it takes to do that.  This is what Dignity looks like.' - Oprah Winfrey
  • 'Chadwick Boseman was as compelling, powerful and truthful as the characters he chose to play. His intelligence, personal dignity and deep commitment inspired his colleagues and elevated the stories he told. He is as much a hero as any he played. - Harrison Ford'
  • 'I've been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel. I've been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement...every hug...everything. I wish we had more time. Since nearly the beginning of my career, starting with All My Children when I was 16 years old you paved the way for me. You showed me how to be better, honor purpose, and CREATE LEGACY. And whether you’ve known it or not...I’ve been watching, learning and constantly motivated by your greatness. You are my big brother, but I never fully got a chance to tell you, or to give you your flowers while you were here. The thing that hurts the most is that I now understand how much of a legend and hero YOU are. Through it all, you never lost sight of what you loved most. You cared about your family, your friends, your craft, your spirit...One of the last times we spoke, you said WE WERE FOREVER LINKED, and now the truth of that means more to me than ever. I’m dedicating the rest of my days to live the way you did. With grace, courage, and no regrets. Is this your king!? Yes. he. is! Rest in Power Brother.’ - Michael B. Jordan
  • 'He made a decision to put his purpose in front of the suffering and pain. He didn't take us to a pity party - he put us in his purpose party.' - Stevie Wonder
  • ‘I did not know that he was going through treatment, chemotherapy, never complained. He was there every single minute.’ - Spike Lee
  • I’m 'Press on with pride.  Press on with purpose' - Chadwick Boseman. This was hard to hear about.  Hard to imagine the quiet pain and struggle you went thru all these years, yet still shined your powerful light and talents to inspire the world.  Especially, our kids who finally saw themselves as a superhero -- because of you.  Rest in power, brother.  My love and strength to your family.  You will always press on with pride and purpose.' - Dwayne Johnson
  • 'Please Jesus please...I know you know what's best...but at this moment our hearts are writhing with so much pain...so to lose this beautiful black king renders me weak...please watch over his family and loved ones...@chadwickboseman you have touched the lives of all of us...u will forever be remembered in the highest regard...REST IN POWER! our black king! Our black panther! ❤❤❤ - Jamie Foxx
  • 'This is such devastating news. We're praying for his family.  The world has lost an immeasurable talent and a great person.' - Chris Pratt
  • ‘Chadwick told the world stories at a time when we needed them most and made sacrifices to do so. If he had to leave us, which is unfair, unfathomable and crushing - he did so with a blaze of meaning fit for a King.’ - Kevin Feige
  •  ‘A warrior of light til the very end. A true king.  I am without words. May he rise in power.' - Kerry Washington
  • 'I'm so shocked and heartbroken about Chadwick.  He was such a bright light, such a gifted performer.  He brought grace, elegance and power to everything he did.  He always seemed to carry our ancestors with him.  And now he joins them far too soon.' - John Legend
  • 'Chadwick was just an artist. That's just who he was. I don't know that people understand the absolute impact of that statement. We are in the business, that a lot of times people have business conversations that masquerade themselves as artistic conversations.' - ETC Oct 20, 2020 & 'Chadwick...no words to express my devastation of losing you.  Your talent, your spirit, your heart, your authenticity......It was an honor working beside you, getting to know you...Rest well prince...May flights of angels sing thee to they heavenly rest.  I love you!' - Viola Davis
  • 'Heartbroken.  My friend and fellow Bison Chadwick Boseman was brilliant, kind, learned, and humble.  He left too early but his life made a difference.  Sending my sincere condolences to his family. …From his groundbreaking work in Black Panther to his portrayal of Thurgood Marshall, Chadwick Boseman helped paint a new picture of what's possible.  Keeping his family, friends, and fans in my prayers during this difficult time.' - Senator and Democratic nominee for vice president Kamala Harris
  • The true power of @ChadwickBoseman was bigger than anything we saw on screen.  From the Black Panther to Jackie Robinson, he inspired generations and showed them they can be anything they want -- even super heroes.  Jill and I are praying for his loved ones at this difficult time.' - former vice president and the Democratic nominee for president Joe Biden
  • I’ll always remember watching Chadwick in 42. Barack and I were alone in the White House, on a weekend night with the girls away. I was so profoundly moved by the rawness and emotion in the barrier-breaking story. And not long after, when he came to meet with young people in the State Dining Room, I saw that Chadwick’s brilliance on screen was matched by a warmth and sincerity in person. - Michelle Obama
  • 'Chadwick came to the White House to work with kids when he was playing Jackie Robinson.  You could tell right away he was blessed.  To be young, gifted, and Black; to use that power to give them heroes to look up to; to do it all while in pain -- what a use of his years.' - former President Barack Obama
  •  '1 of my all time favorite people on the planet Chadwick Boseman has passed away after 4 years of fighting cancer.  A wonderful actor & a truly nice man.  R.I.P. condolences to his family' - Whoopi Goldberg
  • 'I'm absolutely devastated.  This is beyond heartbreaking.  Chadwick was special.  A true original.  He was a deeply committed and constantly curious artist.  He had so much amassing work still left to create.  I'm endlessly grateful for our friendship.  Rest in power, King 💙' - Chris Evans

  • 'Mr. Boseman leveled the playing field while fighting for his life...That's heroism...I'll remember the good times, the laughter, and the way he changed the game...#chadwickforever' - Robert Downey Jr.
  • 'All I have to say is the tragedies amassing this year have only been made more profound by the loss of #ChadwickBoseman.  What a man and what an immense talent.  Brother, you were one of the all time greats and your greatness was only beginning.  Lord love ya.  Rest in power, King.' - Mark Ruffalo

  • 'It's hurtful.  It's sad on so many levels, just to think that he was battling with this and no one really knew about it.  And still being an amazing person and showing up for work and pleasant.  It just makes you go like 'what are we complaining about?' Black Panther went on to become the movie I wished I was a kid.  I always tell people I wished Movies like that came out when I was a youth.  He walked like a KING! • 'I haven't grieved a loss this acute before.  I spent the last year preparing, imagining and writing words for him to say, that we weren't destined to see. It leaves me broken knowing that I won't be able to watch another close-up of him in the monitor again or walk up to him and ask for another take. He was an epic firework display.  I will tell stories about being there for some of the brilliant sparks till the end of my days.  What an incredible mark he's left for us.' - Ryan Coogler
  • 'Baseball is in my blood, literally...Jackie Robinson was a pioneer and made the game better, stronger and more inclusive...On this day our heart goes out to the friends and family of Chadwick Boseman who played Jackie in 42. Immersive Van Gogh

Chowed down at El Venezolano off the Danforth (818 Danforth Ave) on arepa's (mine was an Arepas Llanera) just before going to see the Immersive Van Gogh exhibition at 1 Yonge St with Jordan last night.

A super surreal experience! We both concluded the feeling in the exhibit would be equivalent to being ‘high’...although this is only our hypothesis...

Afterwards, people could create their own ‘Van Gogh’ if they wished.

Overall, a highly recommended exhibit to experience!

Hump day entertainment!

Hadn't realized how much I enjoy Wednesday's including:
  • day off (🥳)
  • longer walks in the morning as the sun's coming up (sadly, later every day...)
  • catching the beat of the music (to bop along to!) from an outdoor exercise class wafting in the air as I'm walking in the park 🤩🥳♥️ (I miss listening to music during my workouts but it’s something to give up in order to concentrate on the sounds in the neighborhood. C’est la vie!)
  • Also participated in the Boss Family Workout at 1pm on Instagram, yaaaassss! 👌

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMES!!!

After text messaging her birthday greetings this morning:
'Hey 👋,
Happy birthday 🥳 !’

I was smart enough to leave it at that as I left all the 'planning' to mom and off to work I went...when I was picked up afterwards by the rents, heading down to her place where mom dropped in (surprising her as she was in a mid-work phone call) to steal her away for dinner at The Keg!

Ceaser salad and calamari appetizer; calamari and Ames'  Prime Rib
I ordered the Garden Burger with fries while Mom and Dad split a New York Striploin

Ames enjoying her meal and afterwards, an ice cream cake (on the house!!!)
